- Description: 2017 · Made for Cadillac with Gentex, shown at the Marfa Film Festival. 200 rear-camera mirrors in a ring you could put your hands on.

**What it was.** Horizon was a horizontal ring carrying 200 of Cadillac's
Rear Camera Mirrors on its outer face. Behind each mirror sat a camera
pointed at an LCD screen, driven by software we wrote. A sensor on every
mirror registered where you were standing, so the perspective shifted as
you moved around it. The colors ran as a pulsing gradient — the desert at
dusk and dawn — and intensified as you got closer.

**When.** 2017\. Marfa Film Festival.

**Made for.** Cadillac, in collaboration with Gentex. Built at Midnight
Commercial with Daniel Rosenberg.

**What it revealed.** Cadillac wanted to show what the mirror could do by
taking it out of the car entirely. Two hundred of them in a ring turned a
spec sheet into something you could walk around and touch. People put
their hands all over it, which almost never happens with art in a room
like that. The handling *was* the explanation. Nobody had to be
told what the feature was for.
